The Commissioner is a statutory position responsible for promoting and evaluating the implementation of the Australian Public Service Values and Code of Conduct, and for reporting on the health of the APS. She also has policy responsibilities relating to public administration and people management, particularly the promotion of leadership skills.
Ms Briggs has been with the Australian Public Service for 27 years. Her career has involved time in the former Department of Social Security, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Treasury and the then Department of Health and Aged Care. Ms Briggs was also employed by the New Zealand Treasury for two years. From June 2001 to 2004, Ms Briggs was Deputy Secretary of the Department of Transport and Regional Services.
